Hi and welcome to my review of Wealthy Affiliate.
I have been a member of WA for the past 4 years and I can tell you with absolute confidence that there is no online platform out there that offers all-inclusive training, tools, and support like WA does.
The training is more structured on helping you find a niche (something you are passionate about), building a website based on your passion, driving traffic to your site, and consequently earning revenue.
Secondly, they say it as it is. There is a lot of hard work involved. That is the reality of all business, online, or offline.
I would say the biggest take away is that the primary foundation of WA is based on sharing and leveraging the knowledge of other like-minded people like yourself.
Yes, you! You are an ambitious person and I believe that’s why you are here.
The Wealthy Affiliate Story
The story goes back to 2005 when two young Canadian guys, Kyle and Carson, came together to develop a keyword research website that would help affiliates build successful Pay Per Click (PPC) campaigns.
Pay Per Click simply means paying for people to visit your website.
It turned out to be a huge success but then there was a demand for more tools like training, web hosting, and networking.
If you’ve been on the internet long enough, no doubt you know how cumbersome things were back in the day. Building a website was no easy task. You had to learn coding even for simple things like creating a button. As the years rolled on and online systems got more user-friendly and more integrated, so did Wealthy Affiliate.
From its humble beginnings, the WA education platform has grown to become an all-round, one-stop-shop for anyone willing and ready to build an online business. Of course, things are very different from what they were back then. Building a website now just takes a couple of minutes to get the basic draft together.
There are over 2 million members within the WA platform.
What do they do at Wealthy Affiliate?
The simple answer to that would be, as the name suggests, they teach affiliate marketing.
In a nutshell, affiliate marketing is the process where you (the affiliate) promotes a product or service from a merchant (e.g. Amazon, Clickbank) and in the process, you earn a commission when a customer buys it based on your recommendation.
From the time you choose a product to promote it, to earning a commission, there is a learning curve involved and this is where the WA training comes in. Within the members’ area, you get easy to follow lessons (Audio, video and weekly live webinars) that take you through the entire training process. There is even a live chat system where you can get answers to your questions on the go. Pretty cool huh!
The potential of affiliate marketing.
Have you ever bought anything online either from eBay, Amazon, or some other online retail store? The first thing most people do is a Google search to learn all there is to know about the product that they are after? 81% of online shoppers research their products online before making a purchasing decision.
Businesses understand this and so they are quite happy to offer affiliate programs to promote their products. An “affiliate program” or “associate program in the case of Amazon” is a relationship in which a merchant pays you (the “affiliate”) for links from your site to their site.
As an example, I did a review of a product called the BullyEyes cell phone camera lens attachment. It’s a simple lens that you attach to your smartphone camera lens which enables you to take shots that are beyond your smartphone lens ability.
I bought the lens because I needed a product that would help me take great pictures for my design work without spending a fortune on an expensive camera. Most smartphone cameras are just as good as a digital camera but there are still limitations. This tiny lens helps you capture wide-angle shots and can magnify tiny objects up to 10 times
I get paid a commission by the Bullyeyes affiliate program when people visit my website and buy the smartphone camera lens attachment after reading my review. It’s as simple as that.
So how do I go about it?
The diagram below shows you the 4-step process that is required for you to get your online venture up and rolling.
We all come from different backgrounds in life. Some people love painting, others are into motor mechanics, others love music, etc. An interest should be something you are passionate about.
I love photoshop, watercolor painting, smartphone photography, etc.
In marketing, it’s called a niche. That word has many meanings the most common being a comfortable or suitable position in life or employment. With online marketing, it takes a slightly different meaning.
Let’s go with this example.
Jack is an artist.
Jack is an artist who only works with acrylics
Jack is an artist who only works with acrylics and only paints portraits.
Who is Jack?
Jack is a portrait artist who works with acrylics.
Essentially, Jack is the niche.
At the very heart of it, a niche is simply a very targeted group of people with a particular interest.
How does Jack make money with his niche? Stay tuned. I will touch on that when I explain Keywords.
I love photography, but this is a wide and broad subject. There are thousands or perhaps hundreds of thousands of websites with photography related information. I would need to narrow down to a specific group of people who are interested in a particular form of photography. Take your pick.
- Landscape Photography
- Wildlife Photography
- Aerial photography
- Sports / Action Photography
- Portrait Photography
- Architectural Photography
- Wedding /Event Photography
- Fashion Photograph
- Macro photography
Whichever direction you go when picking up your niche, understand that there are over 550,000,000 products and services that you can choose, promote and earn revenue. Affiliate marketing has unlimited growth potential.
Choosing a niche is something that requires a bit of time to think over. You want to go with a niche that you love because you want to have fun growing your business. It’s shouldn’t feel like a job.
Building Your Website
Once you have your niche chosen, building your website is your next step. This is the easy part.
Years ago as a college student, I built my first website using a program called Flash multimedia. Not sure whether it’s still around. It was a tedious, nerve-wracking process. You had to write some code to get things to work. Thankfully, that era is gone for good.
We now have WordPress. The world’s most versatile web design platform. You don’t need to be a computer geek to use it.
It just takes a bit of getting used to and you are on your way. This website is built in WordPress. So are half of all websites on the internet.
WA uses SiteRubix to design and host your website. It comes equipped with powerful security features, so you can be sure that whatever you do online is safe and secure. You also get tools that enhance the loading speed of your site which is essential for visitors coming to your site.
You can enter your details below to start building your website. It’s a simple 4-step process that will take you less than a minute!
Your website design should be a reflection of what you are promoting. Take your time and do your research on the various themes to get a clear understanding of how each works and its effectiveness in your campaigns.
I use the GeneratePress theme on this site. It’s a premium theme but there is also a free version of it. There are thousands of other free themes that you can use for your campaigns.
Traffic and revenue
Traffic simply means visitors who come to your site. You can’t put up a website today and expect to have people rocking up tomorrow. Your site has to grow for search engines to start ranking your content.
Search engines like Google, Bing, and Yahoo need to know that you are in for the long haul for them to start ranking your website. It’s a game of patience.
As your site grows, so does your traffic. There are several ways you can go about gaining traffic. You can use social media, paid traffic campaigns, or SEO.
SEO stands for search engine optimization and that is the strategy you should focus on. All your traffic comes organically and it’s free. For this to happen you need to follow a few ground rules, the most important being proper keyword research and consistency in the content that you put out there.
Again, all the training on how to go about building your website and traffic is provided within the WA program.
As your traffic grows you will begin to start seeing revenue.
Tools of the trade.
Any good tradesman will tell you that it’s one thing to know the ropes of your trade and yet another to have the right tools for the job. Since its inception, WA has endeavored to come up with tools that make it easy for you to build your online business with ease. The tools range from website development, keyword research (finding the right keywords to help your site rank high in search engines), content creation to website analysis for all your campaigns.
Let’s briefly touch on some of these to get a better understanding of why you need them for the success of your online biz.
Keywords are a grouping of words found within your website that help search engines like Google locate your posts or pages. They form the basic foundation of all your online campaigns. Simply put, a keyword is what people type in the search bar when they are looking for information.
Keywords are the lifeblood of your site and having them set right within your website, will lead to getting better results in terms of traffic and ultimately conversions. You need to choose relevant terms that receive a decent amount of monthly searches and are not too competitive.
Click here to read more about keywords.
Let’s go back to my example of Jack, the portrait artist. The next step is to start doing my research using that term. To achieve that you will need to use a keyword research tool. WA uses the Jaaxy keyword research tool which is available to all WA members. It is highly robust and gives you more data than just keyword research results.
Jaaxy gives a whole bunch of keywords that you can use to start writing content. If you have a passion for any niche there are hundreds of thousands of keywords (topic ideas) that you can use to build up your content.
Content is your currency on the internet. As your content grows so does your audience. Using my earlier example, Jack would start making money by recommending products that are related to his niche to his audience e.g brushes, easels, paints, etc. When people buy these products, Jack will be earning commissions.
You can try out Jaaxy below. You have 30 Free searches.
Domains and Hosting
If you have ever tried building your site, you will notice that it’s hard to find a platform that offers everything in one place. You probably need to buy a domain from one platform, host it in another, and so on.
If you decide to take premium membership (which I will talk about a little later on) you get 10 full domains e.g. www.example.com and 25 sub-domains e.g. www.example.siterubix.com. A full domain will cost you $13 a year hosting fee.
I want you to compare what you get with WA hosting and what other platforms offer. Check out what the rest of the industry charges and you will understand why you don’t need to go elsewhere.
Remember that you are also getting your websites hosted with other powerful features included. Deals don’t get any better than this.
Management of your website.
Despite website creation being as user-friendly as it is today, there are still technical aspects of website development that you need to come to terms with. This involves keeping a track record of analytics so that you can be able to better understand what is working and what is not. That way you get to know what needs to be improved on.
The SiteHealth tool gives you access to real-time data on things like publishing frequency, user engagement, plugins, and so on. It’s a pretty cool tool because it serves as a guideline to what is needed to be done for search engines like Google to rank your site.
I must also mention that as you build your site, Google Search Console and Google Analytics will become an important part of your business. That is a bit advanced but the training within WA also teaches you how to set up your site so that Google can keep track of your site activities and also help you to rank high within its search results. Ideally, you want to hit the first top pages in search engine results.
The WA training
The internet is the one place where nothing stays the same for long. That means that you have to constantly keep educating yourself. From my own experience, I have come to notice that people who become successful in life never stop learning. To become successful, you need to keep up with what is happening out there.
Lessons are organized in tiny sections accompanied by video tutorials that are easy to follow. At the end of each lesson, you just check off to verify that you understand. You can always come back to the lesson if you want to recap on something that you didn’t quite catch.
Sometimes, you might go through a lesson and still feel that you need to learn some more. That is why as a new member it’s important to network with people within the platform. You can always ask the community by typing your question in the search bar. Other members, normally answer questions in minutes. There is also a live chat section where you can interact with other members in real-time.
If you have a technical question that you want to be answered you can always submit a support ticket to the WA technical support team.
Live video classes
The power of video. Jay Neil is the WA in-house live training coach. He delivers a powerful fun-filled live webinar every week on Friday evening (Canadian time). I take my hat off to him because the guy has a lot of passion for what he does.
Jay has been a WA member for many years and does these lessons for free. You are free to ask him any questions related to the topic during the webinar and he always does his best to answer.
He also shares a fair bit of the personal resources that he has used to build his own business. All lessons are archived, so you can watch them as many times as you like.
For me, the ability to network with people from all around the world is a priceless asset. We don’t only talk business but also have fun by sharing things of interest. It’s the way business should be.
Does the training work?
There many people within this community that have made enough money and walked out of their jobs to concentrate on building their businesses. There is no greater feeling than the moment you make your first affiliate sale.
I made my first sale 3 months after joining WA and I was over the moon. It wasn’t much but that to me was all I needed to convince me that the system works.

This a real people with real testimonials. They all started with little to no knowledge at all in affiliate marketing. All these people have access to the same training. If they can do it, so can you. The secret to this kind of success is based on following the training to a tee and of course, putting in the work.

I would recommend that you take advantage of the FREE membership and only upgrade when you feel you ready to do so.
Premium membership is for those who are ready to take their business to the next level. If you are looking for value for money, then it doesn’t get better than this. It’s a small price to pay for the value that you get from this amazing program. Check out what the competition charges and see for yourself why this is the real deal.
The question you might be asking is what else do I need to pay for? Nothing. There are no upsells. $49 is all you pay and that is what makes Wealthy Affiliate such an awesome program. In fact, the cost of premium membership is less than what it was when WA first started.
Yes of course.
If you decide to take premium membership, you can choose to pay yearly for $495. Or you could decide to take advantage of the Black Friday deal which comes in November where the price drops to $299 or just 80 cents a day. That is less than the price of a dollar coffee at 7-eleven.
