what-is-the-acn-business-opportunity-homepageIf you are reading this page, chances are someone might have approached you with this great idea that is the ACN Business opportunity and you want to find out more about the business.

May I first begin by stating that I am not a member of ACN  and I am not receiving any commissions from them. This review is from a personal independent perspective and based on an interview I had with a former member.

If you have been doing your research on ACN, I am sure you have come across a lot of mixed reviews.

It shouldn’t surprise you because the nature of all MLMs is shrouded in controversy and suffers a very mixed reputation.

There are those who swear that all MLMs are scams and yet there are those who believe it’s the only way to financial freedom.

Most MLMs operate within the law and are legitimate. However, the industry has a lot of rotten apples too. That’s why you hear of an illegal pyramid and Ponzi schemes.

ACN and many others do not fall into this category.

Since it all about making money and you are curious to know whether you can make it with ACN, my answer would be a YES.

Will you become successful as an ACN IBO? That my friend is a big MAYBE!!

What is ACN?

ACN is a company that was founded in 1993 and sells home services to consumers and small businesses through a direct selling (Network marketing, MLM) model. The company operates in 24 countries around the world and provides the following services.

  • what-is-the-acn-business-opportunity-productsHome landline telephone service
  • Voice over internet protocol
  • Internet
  • Satellite TV
  • Mobile phone service
  • Flash wireless
  • Home and office security services

These are services we use every day so what is all the noise about ACN being a pyramid scheme?

The nature of all MLMs is that it always has little to do with the products they promote. They are all centered towards recruiting members- referred to IBOs (independent business owner) who in turn go about recruiting other members.

The principle is to use the products, refer others and get paid.

Those who you recruit under you are called downlines while those whose team you join are referred to as uplines. Commissions are referred to as customer acquisition bonuses are paid through a compensation structure from sales among team members.

As you grow in the business, you pass through a ranking system starting from Executive Team Trainer to Senior Vice President.

The Pros

  • You learn a lot in terms of personal development. It’s the one quality about most MLMs that I really admire. Helps you to acquire a mindset of success.
  • You can build a long term recurring income.
  • You can build your business in multiple countries.
  • ACN supports the Ronald McDonald charity and other charities.
  • There are no limits as to how much you can earn. Your efforts will determine what you make.

The Cons

  • High dropout rate. Most people you recruit won’t stick around for long
  • Low commissions in the beginning. You will be putting in a lot of work for meager returns.
  • Tedious repetitive meetings that have an almost cult-like devotion to them. Success is always over-emphasized contrary to the reality of it.
  • Some of their products are becoming redundant as smartphones and other gadgets take over. In fact, most internet based services are getting cheaper.
  • Their products are not competitive. If you shop around, you will notice that you can get all these services for less the price that ACN offers. But then again, they have to support the compensation structure.
  • It’s not an easy sell. Most people you meet might have heard of MLM or something similar and are always very skeptic about such businesses. You have a huge task trying to convince them that ACN is better than what they might have heard before.
  • There is a huge probability that your efforts might not yield fruit.

Who is ACN for?

ACN is for anyone hoping to build a residual income that can lead to total financial freedom. Do not believe all the negative hype you hear. It’s possible to be successful.

The fact that there are so many people involved in it should tell you something about the business. Those top level earners you see on the podium in every meeting started like you and have built the business through persistence and hard work.

As I mentioned earlier if you have the drive and passion for MLMs or sales, yes you can find massive success in this business.

ACN is all about building relationships. Some people are good at it while others learn how to.

ACN Tools & Training

It all starts with your first meeting. That is where the dream to success is planted.

Set up your online store. That is the first order of business. This provides you with an online portal that you can use to recruit others into your business.

The importance of having a business mindset. You will be given pamphlets and brochures detailing how the business model works and the compensation plan.

Weekly meetings, workshops, and conventions. They, for the most part, showcase success testimonials and routine training modules.

Contacting and inviting. This means approaching people with the same opportunity that was offered to you. You have to be careful not to reveal too much because the idea is to get them to a meeting so that they may see the big picture. Your upline will normally be your guide through this journey.

Team building. This will be the structure of your business and that is where you begin to hear the word Pyramid scheme. There is nothing wrong with getting people to join your business. Selling MLMs is not complicated. Most of it is verbatim and once you build confidence in yourself and have that deep belief in the system then success is possible.

ACN Support

There is a huge community support amongst ACN members. Over time as you get to know fellow members they will encourage you and a lot of what you might have found hard to do becomes routine.

You can also access their customer support center as an IBO via their website by sending a text message or through live chat.

ACN Price

The first thing you need to do when you join ACN is to become an ACN customer of course. That means for $499 initial entry fee you switch all your home-based service providers to ACN. On top of that, there is a monthly $ 30 fee. These fees can vary from country to country.

There are gate charges for occasional meetings and conferences that can range anywhere from $15 to a few hundreds.

Travel expenses. You will be doing quite a bit of driving I can assure you. You can’t grow the business without traveling to meetings and interviews.

My Final Opinion…

So, to join or not to join. In my opinion, there are three kinds of people in this business.

  • Those who succeed and will passionately defend the business for what it is. It’s okay to be proud of your success.
  • Those who just get by. They have been sold the dream, probably signed up a few people but despite their efforts, the business just hasn’t taken off. They will still defend the business to the end just because they believe in it. They cling to the hope of becoming like the top level earners.
  • The fence sitters who are the majority and usually drop out within a short period of time once they realize that it is not as easy as they were led to believe.

The biggest attribute in most MLMs is the positive mental discipline and the success mindset that it instills. ACN has a fantastic program for that. What they don’t tell you is that some people will be lucky while others will not.

The problem is people tend to get sucked in the euphoria of those supercharged meetings. There is a lot of cheering and success testimonials that people tend to get blinded by the prospect of the good life.

Before joining ACN

  • Shop around to compare prices of the same services they offer. I am sure you can get some pretty good deals out there for less. All MLMs have to support the compensation plan and some products could pricey.
  • Are you ready to approach your family members and friends with the business plan? This to me is the biggest drawback in MLMs. Good friends are hard to come by. Why turn them into business transactions?
  • Are you ready to sacrifice most of your spare time to build the business? It will not grow if you get home from work and sit around because you are too tired to go to a meeting.
  • Less than 1% of people succeed in MLM. 10% don’t make any substantial income. 90% of those you contact will not join the business.
  • Can you confidently show someone what it is you are doing and how much you are earning before dragging them to a meeting? I mean the proof of the pudding is in the eating meaning, right?
  • Will you still be able to keep going once you have exhausted your list and have no more leads?

There are other less stressful ways in which you can create a passive income online if you ask me. How about you check out how I make money online without having to recruit.

  1. Hi Lenard,

I’ve been looking at MLMs and I was interested to find out more about this one. But after reading your article I’m not sure I am cut out for this kind of thing.

It sounds like it’s a full-time chore with all the driving around and meetings etc. I was sort of hoping that I could do it part-time and still be successful but like you say, it’s up to me how much effort I put into it.

How would you rate it out of 10?

    • I would give it a 4 out of 10. I was a member of ACN, once and I didn’t last long after joining due to the tedious nature of growing the business. I did however see the potential within the business after I met some highly successful IBOs. Its a matter of how much effort you put in, but again there are no guarantees that you will succeed. In all honesty majority of people do not succeed.

The beauty of internet marketing in compassion is your efforts are guaranteed to bear fruit, if done properly.

  2. Hi Leonard.

MLM are very legit business model and way of earning an income but for me it is too hands on and you have to deal with people and their problems and I for one just don’t want my business or income centred around the actions of other people – I’d rather my income be dependent on my own actions rather than those of others.

    • Absolutely Derek. MLMs are sometimes just a hit and miss affair and they are largely dependent on the efforts of others. People do succeed and sometimes in an enormous way, but its a tough nut to crack anyway you look at it.
