What Is Team Beachbody All About? Is It Legit Or A Big Fat Scam?

team beachbody homepage snippetHi and welcome to my Team Beachbody review. Someone might have approached you with the opportunity that is the Team Beachbody business. Or perhaps you came across it on social media.

May I first start by stating that I am not a consultant with Team Beachbody and so I am not going to be asking you to whip out your credit card for your dream to success.

It’s good you are doing your research. With all the business opportunities floating around this days, it’s good to do due diligence and learn what is expected of you before committing yourself to any business.

This review is based on my own research and the aim is to help you make an independent decision on whether to join, stay on or bail out. The decision is entirely up to you.

So just what is the Team Beachbody business opportunity? Is it a scam or legit? Can you make some serious money?

No doubt you want some things cleared. Well, let’s find out, shall we.

Everybody wants to have that perfect body for the beach. Wouldn’t it be great to be fit as a fiddle while making money on the side. Certainly.

You don’t need to go far to come across some ad promoting a nutritional product or a fitness program that can aid in helping you achieve your fitness goals.

Enter Team Beachbody and they have the perfect solution for you. This is an online program that specialises on nutrition and home fitness programs.

Which is pretty cool because, when you go to your local gym, they probably might not give you a guide on what you should be eating. Good physical fitness goes hand in hand with proper nutrition.

Team beachbody endeavours to deliver this through a multi level marketing business model. The company sells the program and products through independent sales representatives who are referred to as coaches.

The company is a subsidiary of Beachbody, a company founded in 1998 by Carl Daikeler and Jon Congdon.  It’s based out of Santa Monica, California

Team Beachbody gives you access to a variety of products that include nutritional supplements, portion control systems and home workouts. Here is a least of the fitness programs in their catalog:

How it works

To become a coach with beachbody you need sign up and pay $39.95 There is also a $15.95 monthly fee. That is not all. You also have a $2.95 weekly fee (optional and billed quarterly) that helps you steer leads your way. I know it doesn’t sound like much but it adds up to $155 per year, which in my opinion is pretty useless since there are no guarantees that you will make sales through those leads.

You can also sign up for their Beachbody On Demand program which is just an App that you download that takes you to their achieve where you are able to access all the training on the go. That will knock you back  $8.25 per month or one payment of $99. You can also go half yearly and pay $9.84 or one payment of $59.

I must admit the cost to become a coach at Beachbody can escalate quite a bit.

Compensation plan

Like all good MLMs, there must be a compensation plan otherwise what would be the point? This is the bait that attracts distributors to join the business. It’s all about the commissions you make for sales and recruiting others to join you. There are 3 ways in which you can earn money.

  • Retail commissions
  • Team Beachbody club membership
  • Beachbody Challenge pack commissions and bonuses

Beachbody pays you a 25% commission from the sale of its products, which I must say it’s pretty good compared to other companies.

Beachbody On Demand members also receive a 10% discount on future purchases in the Team Beachbody store.

I will not go into much detail because things tend to get very complicated when you go into all the nitty gritty of compensation plans.

Let’s hear it from the experts. Please note that I am not endorsing this video. It’s only for presentation purposes.

Pros and cons

Normally, every business opportunity has the bright and dull side that everyone involved in has to come to terms with. That is what determines whether to remain in the game or call it a day.

I was an Amway distributor years ago, and I must say there are some highly successful consultants in the MLM industry. Yes, you can become successful in this business. That is the good news.

The bad news is you are most likely to fail. I know that can be interpreted as loser but the true fact is a very tiny portion of Mlm consultants make a decent income. Most people will just be hanging on the edge hoping to get that one downline who will catapult their business.

This is the recruiting business. Before you can find success, be sure to hit on every person you know or perhaps don’t with the opportunity. I am sure you can understand just how difficult that can be.

You never know who will catch bait, right?

The video fitness training that comes with Beachbody is awesome. But let’s face it, not all bodies are created equal. If you are seriously planning to go on a fitness program, an expert training fitness coach would want to know things like age, body mass index, any underlying health problems you might have  etc..

Beachbody training is not geared to a specific group of people. You can’t take a 60 year old man through the same fitness training that you would to a 25 year old.

productShakeology is a product that is often pitched at Team Beachbody as an essential nutritional drink for your training. The shake contains about 400 calories! That is not going to help you in any way, I can assure you.

A good balanced diet and proper training is all you need to get the beach body that you are looking for.

The Mlm narrative.

There is a narrative that network marketing companies use and that is to pitch their products as magical or the next big thing. I am sure you if you shop around, you can find a similar range of high quality products in the market that are just as good if not better and most likely cheaper. Why should I choose one over the other?

The compensation plan of course. It’s the fuel that keeps the business going.

People now use Social media as a way of reaching out to potential recruits.

recruitingIt can be more effective than reaching out to random people on the streets. Unfortunately, most people go about it by spamming social media accounts to promote their business.

It’s not really a long term way of building a business. It’s also very intrusive.

Unsolicited marketing info coming on your timeline especially from people you may know is just plain irritating.

People fail in this form of business because it is by no means easy as they are led to believe. According to The Balance Small Business, less than 1% of all people who join multi-level marketing businesses succeed.

Mary Kay once described the business as filling your bathtub with the sinkhole open. Most people will be gone once they realize just how difficult the business is. The fall out rate is massive.

You may be asking, so how come these companies seem to turn out such huge profits? Good question.

Most of them have very low overheads. They don’t need to advertise. That is why they give you a cut from sales and recruiting. At the very bottom of it, you will be doing all the donkey work for them.

The whole model of the multi-level marketing business is also shrouded in a lot of misconceptions and controversy. I can understand why. You are not really giving people an opportunity to make money. It’s more like reaping the benefits out of their hard work.

I think that is a very sleazy way of doing business. If you are just joining the Beachbody business, just remember that you are in for the ride of your life. Good luck!

Overall opinion

I would say Beachbody seems like an okay company. Not out of this world but okay.

It’s a great business for those who have the energy for recruiting.

If you really wanted to get your body into shape do you really need to buy online training programs? There are tonnes of free resources on the internet that can help you reach your fitness goals.

The other thing you need to understand is, to become a coach you need to learn marketing skills. There is not much in terms of training that can help you reach out to potential recruits.

Marketing is about selling yourself as a brand. With Team Beachbody, you need to put your beach body out there. Are you ready to show your lovely fit body out there for the world to see? I am a bit of an introvert so I prefer to keep things private on my end.

That being said, Beachbody is not a pyramid scheme like some people would claim. With pyramid schemes, the last guy always emerges on the other end with nothing.

Opinion is always divided as to whether this sort of businesses are  scams or not. I suppose it all comes down to who is making money and who is not. Most people who don’t make it will be crying foul while those who succeed will be accusing the losers of lacking the patience to grow the business.

As I mentioned, I have been involved in network marketing before and I know how the game plays out. Network marketing by its very nature is a legit way of doing business and people succeed big time in it. In fact, there are millionaires in the industry.

So why did I leave if there is such huge potential?

Because it is all about recruiting. Seldom do people even talk about the products. That’s because no one makes money just by selling products. Are you ready to start dragging your friends, colleagues and relatives to those hyped up meetings. If you are, well, good luck again.

Can you build a business without recruiting

Many people who become successful online marketers probably have been through some sort of multi level marketing. In the years I have been in the marketing industry I have come to appreciate the fact that the only way you can make money selling products is by having your own website.

In fact you don’t even need to own the products to earn commissions with a website.  And neither do you need to spend money to own one. This website generates me a consistent income.

Why run around chasing after people to join your opportunity and yet you can reach the billions of people who are connected on the internet today.

If you belong to the 99% + number of the people trying desperately to make money recruiting people to their business, how about you check out how I make money online without having to recruit.

MLMs are a waste of time. Some people will tell you not to listen to naysayers like me, but you really need to ask yourself whether you stand a chance.

Many thanks for reading my review. If you have a question or a comment on the Beachbody business opportunity, please leave it below. I would love to hear from you.
