If you are looking for ways on how to improve your knowledge, it only takes a bit of change in mindset to begin to see results.
We have evolved to where we are today because over time the knowledge we possess was critical for our survival. Acquiring knowledge helped us discover fire, invent the wheel and tame the wild
Our brains don’t only grow in size but develop in capacity. When a child is born the learning process begins. The process of acquiring new knowledge goes on for the rest of our lives and never stops.
That is why it’s important to have a good start. Unfortunately, we live in a world where some of us don’t always get a good start.
Children who are exposed to some form of abuse or neglect tend to acquire bad knowledge that can sometimes be destructive in the years ahead.
Despite all that, it’s still possible to right the wrongs of the past and make a change for the better. You are who you think we are.
If you crave for knowledge and the desire to improve your life, following this steps could make a significant improvement in acquiring new knowledge.
- Cultivate the desire to learn. Remember whatever you are aspiring to be is already there. You only need to reach out and get it. Life is sometimes unforgiving to those who are reluctant to stretch out and learn more.
- Set goals and write them down. Writing them down and repeatedly reading them aloud as often as you can have a tremendous effect. You will be surprised at just how much you can achieve. Goals don’t have to be big plans that require precision and timing. Have short term and long term goals. You could set a goal to work out ten minutes a day. Work around the short term goals and the long term goals will fall into place.
- Try new things. The world loves those who dare to go where others dread. If you have been thinking of learning a new skill, go for it. Jimi Hendrix went defied conventional way everyone else played guitar and developed a style that is still widely used today. Be adventurous and don’t be afraid to experiment.
- Listen more, talk less. The Desiderata says listen even to the dull and ignorant, they too have their story. If you have young children, I am sure you will agree that not only have they learned from you but you have learnt something from them too. Take time to listen to others, you will be surprised at how much you will learn.
- Be inquisitive. It’s good to develop a habit of asking questions. We know that the world is not the center of the universe because somebody asked the question. People are always happy to share their knowledge. You will expand your knowledge base and cushion yourself from making mistakes.
- Reason out. When in a conversation, it’s good to engage others and reason out. Knowledge is a two-way process. Just taking in whatever comes your way is not good enough because even the teacher can be wrong. Reasoning brings out a bigger and better perspective on issues.
- Read more. Reading is probably the greatest source of knowledge. We have advanced this far because we read and built upon what was has been recorded for millennia. The most successful people in the world are avid readers. With the digital edge, the amount of reading resources is practically limitless. It is, however, important to read material that provides value. I would recommend dedicating 15 to 30 minutes a day to reading a book. It will transform your life.
